Glamour Award Ceremony Infrastructure
The Assignment
The Glamour Women of the Year Awards celebrates the best of female achievement across film, television, music, literature, theatre, business, art, fashion, philanthropy and more. Staged each year in London’s iconic Berkeley Square in Mayfair, this high-profile event attracts A-list celebrities including leading television personalities and Hollywood stars, and receives publicity across the globe.
The 2017 event was hosted by comedian Jennifer Saunders and attracted a host of stars with award winners including film actress Nicole Kidman, TV personality Emma Willis, Theatre Actress Billie Piper, Comedy Actress Sharon Hogan, Icons Bananarama, Sportswoman Nicola Adams and the Man of the Year award winner James Corden.
For the ceremony’s 14th edition Neptunus was appointed for the first time by leading creative experiential events company Timebased Events, who produces the awards evening on behalf of Glamour Magazine, to provide the temporary infrastructure for the spectacular occasion.
The Solution
A 16-strong team of Neptunus technicians took just four days to transform Berkeley Square with stylish and ultra-modern structures in keeping with the popular Glamour Magazine brand. Alu Halls formed an arena for the awards presentations which incorporated a VIP dinner and after show party. The temporary venue was created using a range of Alu Hall structures ranging in widths from three metres to 20 metres wide with clear span roofs and incorporating an eye-catching garden structure – cleverly designed and manufactured with an open ‘garden’ section as one of the bespoke features.
Following the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, the venue remained in place and was re-designed internally to accommodate another high-profile Timebased Events’ assignment, The London Real Estate Forum. Staged over two days from June 14-15, LREF is acknowledged as the premier real estate event in London which brings together over 2,000 developers, investors, retailers and senior policy makers for debates, discussions and networking.
The Challenge
Berkeley Square, one of the capital’s most famous landmarks, is situated in the heart of Mayfair. Neptunus’ designers and technicians were charged with producing a high-spec venue befitting the location, the status of the occasion and the star-studded guest list attending the ceremony. The picturesque square is full of mature trees that meant Neptunus’s creative team had to design the layout of the structures to fit around the numerous immovable objects while the build crew was charged with ensuring the immaculate landscape was not damaged during the complex build process.
All equipment required had to be delivered to the site overnight to avoid traffic congestion and to minimise disruption to one of London’s busiest thoroughfares.
The Verdict
Richard Dodgson, Timebased’s Founder & Chief Creative Officer, said: “For the 2017 edition of The Glamour Women of the Year Awards we appointed Neptunus as our temporary structure supplier, challenging them to come up with a flexible dual-purpose facility that would bring a stylish and fresh new look to befit such a high-profile event. Their multi-purpose structure provided the perfect blank canvas for us to present a memorable awards ceremony in a building that just days later was able to be transformed into a bespoke conference space to host the prestigious London Real Estate Forum.”
